I had an opportunity to sit down and chat with Trina Turk before her appearance at Belk and The Junior League of Raleigh’s Fashion Forward Event earlier this month. In my opinion, Trina is a down to earth, engaging and passionate business woman. Talking to her was easy and she is definitely a girl after her own dream. What made it even more fun, I was able to talk to her with my fellow Raleigh blogger Nikki.
Here are a few snippets of our conversation -
In regards to knowing when she wanted to design - “I grew up sewing. I wanted more clothes, so the solution was to make my own. I would create a garment over and over again in different colors and prints.”
In regards to her brand - “The industry demanded the print in both apparel and interior. I have loads of print but this has lead to brand recognition without seeing the label first! Of course the California (home) had a lot to do with my color inspiration.”
In regards to her workday - “I try to workout 4 days a week. I try to do it first thing in the morning and then I start my workday a little later. I get settled into my work day by reading, most often Women’s Wear Daily.”
In regards to a must staple this season - “A white shirt. I believe it has been a long time since a classic white shirt has been important. Chambray is also having another moment this spring!”
In regards to what she does not walk out the door without - “Sunglasses! I also like to layer on my jewelry, both vintage and new!”
Here are a few other shots of the fabulous Belk event including the fashion show that concluded the event and the delicious treats that were passed around. I want to congratulate the Junior League of Raleigh and Belk on putting such a classic, fun event together!
Trina with Arlene Goldstein – Belk’s VP of trend merchandising and fashion direction. I absolutely adore both of these women!
